Slack Desktop Notification Issues
In May of 2024, it was brought to our attention that many users were not receiving notifications from their desktop Slack applications. This issue seems to be unique to the Desktop app on Windows 10 and Windows 11 machines.
After investigating, we've identified a combination of Slack, Eve, and Windows settings that seem to be responsible. Below you can find steps that should fix the issue, as well as images of each step on the right.

Eve Settings
Navigate to: Settings → Display & Graphics
- Set Display Mode to Fixed Window (AKA borderless window) or Window mode
Slack Settings
On the Desktop App, Navigate to: Preferences → Notifications
- UNCHECK Mute all messaging sounds from Slack
- Ensure Notification sound (messages) is NOT set to None
- Set Deliver notifications via… to Windows Action Center or Windows Action Center (abbreviated)
Windows 11 Settings
Navigate to: Settings → System → Notifications
- Turn Notifications ON
Choose one of the following sections depending on if you want to use Windows 11's Do Not Disturb functionality.
Disabling Do Not Disturb
Navigate to: Settings → System → Notifications
- Turn Do not disturb OFF
Expand: Turn on do not disturb automatically
- UNCHECK During these times
- UNCHECK When duplicating your display (priority notification banners are also hidden)
- UNCHECK When playing a game
- UNCHECK When using an app in full-screen mode (priority notification banners are also hidden)
- UNCHECK For the first hour after a Windows feature update
Using Do Not Disturb
Navigate to: Settings → System → Notifications → Set priority notifications
- Ensure Slack is listed under Apps
- If it's not, click Add apps to add it
- If notifications are still not showing up, remove and re-add it
Windows 10 Settings
Navigate to: Settings → System → Notifications & actions
- Turn Notifications ON
- CHECK Allow notifications to play sounds
Choose one of the following sections depending on if you want to use Windows 10's Focus Assist functionality.
Disabling Focus Assist
Navigate to: Settings → System → Focus assist
- Turn Focus assist OFF
- Turn During these times OFF
- Turn When I'm duplicating my display OFF
- Turn When I'm playing a game OFF
- Turn When I'm using an app in full screen mode OFF
Using Focus Assist
Navigate to: Settings → System → Focus assist
- Ensure the Focus Level of any Automatic rules set to ON is Priority only
Navigate to: Settings → System → Focus assist → Customize your priority list
- Ensure Slack is listed under Apps
- If it's not, click Add an app to add it
- If notifications are still not showing up, remove and re-add it
