How to Rat in a Gila

The Gila is a Pirate Faction Cruiser with a set of bonuses that make it uniquely suited for ratting. Instead of the standard 5 heavy drone loadout, the Gila sports 2 medium drones, each with an enormous damage and hitpoint bonus. This makes it much easier to destroy smaller rats and allows the drones to move more quickly between targets. The Gila also has a solid passive shield tank, allowing it to take on harder sites and resist attempted ganks more than most ratting ships.

You can make around 15-20 million isk/tick (every 20 minutes) using this fit, assuming a 100% Bounty Risk Modifier.

Fittings

The Gila is able to fairly easily run sites in both Angel and Sansha Space. Both fits are Passive-Regen tanked, meaning they have a very high rate of natural shield regeneration that allows them to tank a site while orbiting with an afterburner.

You may if desired switch out the RLML's for Meta HML's. RLML's only have a very short range requiring you to have a tight orbit around the rats' spawn point to use them. HML's on the other hand allow you to stay farther away outside of rat EWAR range, but at the cost of pushing the edge of your drone control range and more delay in recalling drones when they come under attack.

How to Run Sites

If You're New to Ratting

Give the Introduction to Ratting page a read to avoid common mistakes and get some background knowledge.

Running Each Site

Your Shield Hardeners and Afterburner should always be active while you're in a site.

  1. Warp to the site at 0 km.
  2. Find an object around the center of where the rats are spawning, and orbit it at 15 km.
  3. Drop Infiltrator II's / Valkyrie II's and aggress a rat.
    1. If your drones come under attack, recall them, fire a few missile volleys into whatever was shooting them, then re-launch and re-aggress them.

Kill Order: Frigates → Destroyers → Cruisers → Battlecruisers → Battleships

Site-Specific Information

Some sites require special attention due to a particularly nasty wave or unusual mechanics.

All Sanctums and Havens
  • The final wave of this site may spawn NPC Capitals. If an NPC Capital appears you must warp off immediately to avoid being volleyed.
All Sanctums (Ring Variant)
  • Sansha Ring Sanctums are capable of spawning a wave that both points and webs you. You want to immediately focus these down after they spawn, as leaving them up may allow the battleships to break your tank.
  • Ring Sanctums have one spawn per ring. You'll want to adjust your orbit for each spawn.
Angel Havens (Station Variant)
  • The second-last wave of this site spawns a large amount of target painters. You want to immediately focus these down after they spawn, as leaving them up may allow the battleships to break your tank.
Angel Havens (Stargate Variant)
  • Rarely, some waves of this site may spawn three target painters or webbers. You want to immediately focus these down after they spawn, as leaving them up may allow the battleships to break your tank.
  • The rocks in this site may interfere with your orbit. You want a vertical orbit around the stargate if possible.

Additional Information

Runnable Sites

The sites in this list have been tested and determined to be runnable using the above fit(s). It is not necessarily comprehensive, and some sites may require special attention which will be noted in the section above.

  • Angel / Sansha Havens (Both Variants)
  • Angel / Sansha Forsaken Hubs
  • Angel / Sansha Hubs

If You Get Tackled

For Light Resistance

"Light" resistance is up to 3 of any frigate class, 2 of any destroyer class, or 1 T1 Cruiser.

  1. Begin aligning to a citadel.
  2. Immediately switch all damage including missiles to the ship tackling you.
  3. If the point drops or the enemy ship dies, warp off.

For Heavy Resistance

Anything that's stronger than "Light" resistance is "Heavy" resistance.

  1. Begin aligning to a citadel.
  2. Immediately switch all damage including missiles to the weakest tackle ship on field.
  3. Start screaming on comms and in fleet for support.
