===== Slack Desktop Notification Issues =====

In May of 2024, it was brought to our attention that many users were not receiving notifications from their desktop Slack applications. This issue seems to be unique to the Desktop app on Windows 10 and Windows 11 machines.

After investigating, we've identified a combination of Slack, Eve, and Windows settings that seem to be responsible. Below you can find steps that should fix the issue, as well as images of each step on the right.

==== Eve Settings ====

**Navigate to: Settings -> Display & Graphics**

  * Set <text type="success">**Display Mode**</text> to <text type="success">Fixed Window</text> (AKA borderless window) or <text type="success">Window mode</text>

==== Slack Settings ====

**On the Desktop App, Navigate to: Preferences -> Notifications**

  * **UNCHECK** <text type="warning">**Mute all messaging sounds from Slack**</text>

  * Ensure <text type="success">**Notification sound (messages)**</text> is **NOT** set to <text type="warning">None</text>

  * Set <text type="success">**Deliver notifications via...**</text> to <text type="success">Windows Action Center</text> or <text type="success">Windows Action Center (abbreviated)</text>

==== Windows 11 Settings ====

**Navigate to: Settings -> System -> Notifications**

  * Turn <text type="success">**Notifications**</text> **ON**

Choose one of the following sections depending on if you want to use Windows 11's Do Not Disturb functionality. 

=== Disabling Do Not Disturb ===

**Navigate to: Settings -> System -> Notifications**

  * Turn <text type="warning">**Do not disturb**</text> **OFF**

**Expand: Turn on do not disturb automatically**

  * **UNCHECK** <text type="warning">**During these times**</text>

  * **UNCHECK** <text type="warning">**When duplicating your display (priority notification banners are also hidden)**</text>

  * **UNCHECK** <text type="warning">**When playing a game**</text>

  * **UNCHECK** <text type="warning">**When using an app in full-screen mode (priority notification banners are also hidden)**</text>

  * **UNCHECK** <text type="warning">**For the first hour after a Windows feature update**</text>

=== Using Do Not Disturb ===

**Navigate to: Settings -> System -> Notifications -> Set priority notifications**

  * Ensure <text type="success">Slack</text> is listed under <text type="success">**Apps**</text>
    * If it's not, click <text type="success">**Add apps**</text> to add it
    * If notifications are still not showing up, remove and re-add it

==== Windows 10 Settings ====

**Navigate to: Settings -> System -> Notifications & actions**

  * Turn <text type="success">**Notifications**</text> **ON**

  * **CHECK** <text type="success">**Allow notifications to play sounds**</text>

Choose one of the following sections depending on if you want to use Windows 10's Focus Assist functionality. 

=== Disabling Focus Assist ===

**Navigate to: Settings -> System -> Focus assist**

  * Turn <text type="warning">**Focus assist**</text> **OFF**

  * Turn <text type="warning">**During these times**</text> **OFF**

  * Turn <text type="warning">**When I'm duplicating my display**</text> **OFF**

  * Turn <text type="warning">**When I'm playing a game**</text> **OFF**

  * Turn <text type="warning">**When I'm using an app in full screen mode**</text> **OFF**

=== Using Focus Assist ===

**Navigate to: Settings -> System -> Focus assist**

  * Ensure the <text type="success">**Focus Level**</text> of any <text type="success">**Automatic rules**</text> set to **ON** is <text type="success">Priority only</text>

**Navigate to: Settings -> System -> Focus assist -> Customize your priority list**

  * Ensure <text type="success">Slack</text> is listed under <text type="success">**Apps**</text>
    * If it's not, click <text type="success">**Add an app**</text> to add it
    * If notifications are still not showing up, remove and re-add it
